Newcastle Sixth Form College is proud to celebrate an exciting achievement, as one of our teachers, Beth Cooper Guest, has been named a finalist in the prestigious Poetry by Heart national competition.
Poetry by Heart is a UK-wide initiative that challenges students and teachers alike to learn and perform poetry from memory. Participants can enter either the Classic category - reciting poems from a prescribed list - or the Freestyle category, where they have the freedom to choose their own piece or even perform original work.
Representing NSFC in this year’s competition, Beth entered the Teacher Freestyle category, selecting the much-loved poem “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss. Her engaging performance and interpretation have earned her a place in the national final - a fantastic accomplishment in such a competitive field.
Beth will now take to the stage at the iconic Shakespeare’s Globe in London on Monday 6 July, where she will perform alongside other finalists from across the country. She will be competing for the coveted Poetry by Heart Trophy, in what promises to be an inspiring celebration of poetry and performance.
Speaking about her experience, Beth has shared her journey and reflections in a blog for the Sixth Form Colleges Association, offering a unique insight into Poetry by Heart from a teacher’s perspective. Click Here To Read More
We wish Beth the very best of luck in the final and congratulate her on representing Newcastle Sixth Form College on a national stage - an inspiring achievement for both staff and students alike.
